Every house needs at least one good pepper mill. Pre-ground pepper has its place, especially in situations when you need a lot of it at once or you need a consistent grind. But for daily table use, pre-ground pepper can never match up to freshly ground. With a good pepper mill, you should be able to adjust the grind somewhat so you can have coarse for rubbing into a steak or fine for your scrambled eggs.
