Sarsaparilla root (pronounced "sass-per-illa") has really only one culinary use: it is essential to root beer and another similar soft drink, simply called sarsaparilla.

Sarsaparilla has a long history as an ingredient in health tonics, both in Victorian England and in the United States. It has been said to purify and detoxify the body.

Our sarsaparilla root is the Indian variety, similar though not identical to the Jamaican variety, which is more commonly used in the States.
